Women's cross country placed second at NCAA Regionals.

The 15th-ranked Middlebury women's cross country team edged #30 Amherst by three points to claim second place at the NCAA Mideast Regionals on Saturday. Sixth-ranked Williams took home top honors with 90 points, followed by the Panthers (99), the Mammoths (102), #28 Smith (134) and Mount Holyoke (139). Connecticut College hosted the event at Harkness Memorial Park in Waterford, Connecticut.
This marked the first year of the regional realignment, with the winners of each region (10) earning automatic qualifications into the NCAA Championships. The Panthers will find out if they are one of 22 at-large selections when the field is announced on Sunday. The championships will take place on Saturday at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
Cassie Kearney was the first finisher for Middlebury, placing second overall in a field of 172 runners. She completed the 6K course with a time of 21:46.
Bea Parr finished in 16th place, clocking in at 22:44.
Kate Kenny (21st) and
Morgane Orcutt (26th) finished with times of 22:51 and 23:08, respectively.
Nicole Johnson rounded out the scorers for the Panthers, placing 34th with a time of 23:26.
