Erik Arvidsson ’21 Named To United States Alpine Ski Team

Erik Arvidsson '21 (Woodside, Calif.) was named to the United States (U.S.) Alpine Ski Team as announced by the organization this week and will compete under the direction of head coach Forest Carey '00.

With Middlebury's 2021 season paused, Arvidsson had a breakout campaign last year on the Alpine Ski World Cup Downhill circuit, capping off the season with an eighth-place finish and cracking the top-30 for the first time in his career. Earlier in the year, Arvidsson had competed in the Europa Cup, finishing first in a pair of races to rank third overall among all competitors.

In 2020 with the Panthers, Arvidsson earned the EISA Giant Slalom leader bib, given to the athlete who scored the most points during the season. He was the 2018 EISA Rookie of the Year, earning second-team All-East honors, before securing a spot on the first-team the previous campaign. He also earned All-American honors in 2018.

Prior to Middlebury, Arvidsson won the 2016 Junior World Championship Downhill at Sochi, Russia.

Carey, who was a three-time All-American during his time at Middlebury, was named the head coach of the U.S. Alpine Ski Team in May 2021, after previously serving as the head tech coach. After graduating, Carey coached the Panthers from 2003-06. In his inaugural season as the head coach, he led the team to five Eastern carnival victories and Middlebury's first EISA Championship. He was named the 2004 EISA Coach of the Year. Prior to his time as a student-athlete, Carey competed on the U.S. Ski Team from 1993-97.
