Several members of the Middlebury men's tennis team competed at the two-day Wesleyan Invitational this weekend. The event marked the finale for the fall season, as the Panthers will be idle until the spring.
In the singles B draw,
Joe Mairs advanced to the semifinals. He won his round of 16 match against Wesleyan's Max Lee 6-4, 7-5, before downing Geoff Golan of Bowdoin 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
Middlebury had two pairs advance to the semifinals in the doubles bracket. Tandem
Neel Epstein and
Zachary Hilty edged Wesleyan duo Andrew Finkelman and Peter Anker 8-7(4) in the opening round. The duo cruised past Bowdoin's Sujan Garapati and Geoffrey Golan 8-5, before suffering an 8-5 semifinal loss to another Polar Bear duo.
Robby Ward joined Mairs in doubles, as the pair won 8-4 in the opening match, before shutting out Bowdoin's Jack Flores and Oscar Yang 8-0. The duo suffered an 8-1 loss to a Polar Bear tandem on Sunday in the semifinals.
