Sahana Raman of the Middlebury women's tennis team will play second-seed Eliza McPherron of Emory in the ITA Cup Title match on Saturday at noon in Rome, Georgia. Raman advanced to the finale after her opponent withdrew due to an injury in the semifinals round. She is just the second Panther to advance to the championship match, with Lok-Sze Leung playing in the title bout in 2011 and capturing the title in 2012. Raman enters the all-rookie finale with an unblemished 11-0 record, while McPherron is sporting a 9-1 mark.
Raman came from behind to beat North Carolina Wesleyan's Kristal Dule in the round of 16. She dropped the first set (4-6), before bouncing back to take the second set 6-2. In the third, Raman jumped out to a 5-0 lead, cruising to a 6-2 win to claim the victory. Later in the day, Raman squared off with Mary Hose of Carleton College in quarterfinal action. The first set was close, with Raman edging Hose 7-5, before easing to a 6-2 victory in the second to advance to the semifinals.
McPherron began the weekend with a 7-6, 6-0 victory in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, she dropped the first set (4-6) to Washington & Lee's Gabi Moss, but cruised in the second and third 6-1, 6-0. The semifinal match was a back-and-forth affair for McPherron and Pomona-Pitzer's Nina Ye, but McPherron triumphed (6-2, 3-6, 6-3) to advance to the title match.
