Sahana Raman of the Middlebury women's tennis team won a pair of matches on opening day of the ITA Cup, pushing her unbeaten streak to double digits (11-0). With the victories, Raman advances to the semifinals and will play the winner of a quarterfinal match between Pomona-Pitzer's Angie Zhou and New York University's Carol Plakk on Friday at 9:00 a.m. in Rome, Georgia.
Raman came from behind to beat North Carolina Wesleyan's Kristal Dule in the round of 16. She dropped the first set (4-6), before bouncing back to take the second set 6-2. In the third, Raman jumped out to a 5-0 lead, cruising to a 6-2 win to claim the victory.
Later in the day, Raman squared off with Mary Hose of Carleton College in quarterfinal action. The first set was close, with Raman edging Hose 7-5, before easing to a 6-2 victory in the second to advance to the semifinals.
