Panther Secure Three Wins On Day One of ITA Cup Action

Box Score Three members of the Middlebury men's tennis team competed at the first day of the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia. Stan Morris won two matches to advance to the semifinals, while the fourth-seeded tandem Aidan Harris and Noah Laber won their round of 16 match. Morris takes on North Carolina Wesleyan's Jhonny Acosta at 9:00 a.m. on Friday with a trip to the title match on the line, while Harris and Laber meet Claremont-Mudd-Scrips' (CMS) Nathan Armilli and Philip Martin at 12:30 p.m. in a quarterfinal match. 
 
Morris dominated with his forehand in the round of 16, cruising past UW-Whitewater's John Zakowski 6-2, 6-2 on Thursday morning. Fourth-seeded Robert Liu of CMS opened quarterfinal action with a 6-2 victory over Morris, before the two battled back-and-forth in the second and third sets. Morris came back, edging Liu 7-5, 7-5 to win and advance to the semifinals. 

Harris and Laber were victorious against Pomona-Pitzer's duo of Jansen Comadena and Owen Kelley. The pair won 6-4 in the first set, but fell 6-1 in the second to force a super tiebreaker. During the third, it was all Middlebury as Harris and Laber cruised 10-2 to secure the triumph and advance to the quarerfinals.
