The third-seeded Middlebury men's squash team (8-10) topped sixth-seeded Amherst (8-9) by a score of 6-3 on Friday night in the Summers Cup (C Division) Quarterfinals at the CSA Team Championships. The win was the third for the Panthers against the Mammoths this season, as they now hold an 18-2 advantage in the all-time series. Middlebury advances to the semifinals, where they take on second-seeded Navy on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The other semifinal match features top-seeded Williams and fourth-seeded Bates at the same time.
Middlebury earned five points with 3-0 victories. At the top of the ladder, #3 Jacob Ellen cruised past his opponent (13,3,7), while Jack Kagan was victorious in the fourth spot (7,6,8) to earn his 50th career-win. The Panthers recorded a trio of victories in flights six through eight. #6 PK Keller (4,15,2), #7 Wiatt Hinton (7,4,8) and #8 Alex Merrill (10,9,10) each blanked their opponents. Despite dropping the first game 11-8, #2 William Cembalest earned the final point for Middlebury with three-straight victories (9,11,1).
