Men's Squash Places Third at NESCAC Championships

The fifth-seeded Middlebury men's squash team cruised to a 7-2 victory over third-seeded Bates (10-7) to place third at the NESCAC Championships for the fifth year in a row. The Panthers (7-10) are idle until February 28-29 when they head to Harvard for the CSA Team Championship.

Nate Moll got Middlebury on the board first with a 3-0 (1,2,9) victory in the fifth spot, before Jacob Ellen cruised in the third flight 3-0 (10,5,1) for the second point of the day. At #8, Alex Merrill found himself knotted 2-2 with his opponent, but won the final game (7-11, 11-6, 11-8, 4-11, 11-4) to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead.

Bates picked up a point in the sixth spot, before Middlebury won three-straight to clinch the match. William Cembalest came from behind to earn a victory in the second spot (10-12, 9-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-5), before Wiatt Hinton won at #7 (11-6, 8-11, 11-5, 11-6) and Nick Bermingham blanked his opponent in the top-spot (8,6,7). The Bobcats tallied their second point in the ninth flight, before Jack Kagan earned the final Panther point at #4 in a five-game thriller (14-12, 9-11, 11-5, 7-11, 11-9) to make it a 7-2 final score.
