Middlebury's Ellie Greenberg netted the deciding goal with 1:35 remaining, as the Panthers erased an early deficit to post a 2-1 NESCAC road triumph at Bowdoin on Saturday. Fifth-ranked Middlebury (5-0-0, 2-0-0) continues conference play on September 21, hosting Hamilton at 11:00 a.m.

The hosts grabbed the early lead with 7:29 expired, as the Polar Bears (0-2-1, 0-2-1) were awarded a penalty kick after a Panther foul inside the restraining area. Sophia Lemmer slid a shot past a diving Middlebury keeper Ursula Alwang inside the right post for the 1-0 advantage. Middlebury knotted the contest with 31:10 expired after Eliza Van Voorhis held off a Bowdoin defender with the ball going to Leah Salzman, who rolled a shot into the Polar Bear net.      

Middlebury nearly took its first lead with 5:20 remaining in the opening half on a shot by Ellie Bavier. Bavier raced in from the right shot and fired a low shot that was kicked away by Bowdoin goalie Penny Rocchio, as the contest stayed tied 1-1 at the half.

The visitors made another bid to take the lead in the seventh minute of the second half, when Olivia Miller hooked a free kick around a Polar Bear wall from the top of the box that was corralled by Rocchio. Middlebury netted the game-winning goal with just 1:35 left in the contest, as a long free kick by Van Voorhis fell to Greenberg, who directed a shot inside the left post for her second tally of the season.

Alwang made one save in earning the win, while Rucchio finished with four stops for Bowdoin. Middlebury held a sizeable 13-2 advantage in shots, with a narrower 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
