Box Score

Middlebury (6-1-3) got back to its winning ways on Sunday, posting a 5-1 road victory at Maine Maritime Academy (6-3-1) on Ritchie Field. The 15th-ranked Panthers return to action at home Saturday against Colby starting at 12:00 p.m.

Following continued pressure in the early stages of the contest, Middlebury tallied its first goal with 19:15 elapsed. An initial shot by Brandon Reid from the right was saved by Trevor Gray, before Henry Wilhelm pounced on the loose ball seconds later in the penalty area, one-touching it from eight yards. The goal was Wilhelm's second of the season. The Panthers nearly doubled their lead five minutes later, but Gray saved a Reid shot with his left foot.

Maine Maritime knotted the score at 1-1 less than a minute later when Evan Backus headed in a nifty cross from Reuben Harrison at the 25:02 mark. The Panthers regained the lead at 40:08 when Ben Powers headed in a long cross from the right by Drew Goulart. The goal was the first collegiate tally by Powers.

Early in the second half, the Panthers made the score 3-1 when Ben Potter worked into the middle, sending a pass to Brendan Barry who right-footed a shot just inside the right post at 48:07. The goal was Barry's first goal of the fall.

Goulart made it a 4-1 contest with a hard, low shot from 25 yards on the right that snuck inside the left post at 58:20 for his second goal of the season, while Jacob Charles recorded his initial collegiate goal at 84:05, one-touching a cross from Tanner Hellickson. Middlebury goalie Ryan Grady went to his right for his best save of the second half, denying a low shot toward the left post in the 87th minute for the final 5-1 score.

Grady finished with three saves for the visitors, while Gray registered 10 stops for the Mariners. The Panthers held a 24-8 advantage in shots and a narrow 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
