The Middlebury men's squash team won its eighth-straight match on Friday evening by a 7-2 score over No. 25 Dickinson (3-8). With the victory, the 18th-ranked Panthers improve to 10-2, erasing the previous mark of seven-consecutive victories which occurred three times. Middlebury returns to competition on Saturday when it plays 14th-ranked Virginia at 10:00 a.m. in a match at Franklin & Marshall.
In the win over the Red Devils, the hosts got on the scoreboard first with a narrow three-game win at No. 6.
The Panthers responded by reeling off five victories to take a 5-1 advantage. Alex Merrill defeated Zachary Hollander at No. 8 (6-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-9), while Jacob Ellen gave the visitors the lead for good with a four-game triumph in the second position over Alex Wattles (11-5, 11-5, 7-11, 11-7).
Nick Bermingham outlasted Osuman Imouro in the fourth spot (11-7, 11-9, 4-11, 10-12, 11-8), while Thomas Wolpow battled back after dropping the opening game for a 3-1 victory over Graham Henderson at the bottom of the ladder (7-11, 11-6, 11-2, 11-9). John Epley tallied the match-clinching point at No. 7, earning a sweep of Andrew Strudwick (13-11, 11-4, 11-9).
Dickinson moved to within 5-2 behind a three-game triumph atop the lineup.
Teddy Best made the score 6-2 with a four-game victory against Cory Litman at No. 5 (11-7, 12-14, 11-6, 11-5), before Jack Kagan rounded out the scoring with a four-game win at No. 3 (11-8, 16-14, 6-11, 11-9) against Hal Holappa for the final 7-2 score.
