The 20th-ranked Middlebury men's squash team earned home victories by identical 9-0 scores on Saturday in the Bostwick Family Squash Center. The Panthers opened action with a victory over Bowdoin, followed by a triumph against 25th-ranked Colby. Winners of four-straight matches, Middlebury (6-2) wraps up a busy weekend Sunday when it hosts 18th-ranked Bates at 11:00 a.m.
In the win over Bowdoin (2-4), the Panthers didn't surrender a game. Middlebury jumped ahead by a 3-0 score with wins by Finlay McInerney at No. 9 (11-5, 11-4, 11-4), John Epley in the sixth spot (11-3, 11-9, 11-7) and Jack Kagan at No. 3 (11-7, 11-8, 11-5).
Triumphs four through six came from Thomas Wolpow at No. 8 (11-8, 11-7, 11-3), Teddy Best in the fifth spot (11-3, 11-5, 11-3) and Nate Moll at No. 7 (11-7, retired). Jacob Ellen at No. 2 (11-8, 11-3, 11-4), Nick Bermingham in the fourth position (11-7, 11-4, 11-3) and Justin Ghaeli in the top spot (11-5, 11-5, 11-5) rounded out the scoring.
During the win over Colby (2-3), Epley got the Panthers on the scoreboard with a three-game win at No. 6 (11-8, 11-2, 11-7), while Kagan put the hosts up 2-0 via a three-game win in the third slot (12-10, 11-7, 11-3). Alex Merrill made it a 3-0 Middlebury advantage with a three-game triumph at the bottom of the ladder (11-5, 11-6, 11-7).
The Panthers tallied points four and five with three-game victories from Best in the middle of the lineup (11-6, 11-4, 11-3) and Wolpow at No. 8 (11-4, 11-6, 11-2). Ellen needed four games to get past his opponent in the second position (11-6, 11-2, 3-11, 11-2), while Moll made it 7-0 behind a three-game win at No. 7 (11-7, 11-9, 11-8).
Bermingham battled back after losing the first game at No. 4 (9-11, 11-9, 11-3, 11-6), while Ghaeli completed the perfect day for the Panthers with a four-game win atop the ladder (11-8, 6-11, 11-1, 11-3).
