Women's Soccer Improves to 9-0

Box Score

The Panther women's soccer team improved on its program-best start, improving to 9-0-0 with a 2-1 win at New England College (6-6-1) on Sunday afternoon. Middlebury returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Castleton in a 4:00 p.m. contest.

Middlebury wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Eliza Van Voorhis chipped in a ball over NEC keeper Emily Sashko just 2:16 into the game. The goal was her third of the season.

The Panthers doubled their lead at the 36:20 mark on the second of the year from Simone Ameer. Sara DiCenso collected the ball in the top-left corner of the 18-yard box and drew Sashko out, before passing to Ameer in the middle for the eventual game-winner.

NEC got on the board in the second half on a 40-yard strike by Emily LePage from just a step inside the left sideline.

Eva Shaw earned the win in goal for Middlebury, stopping one shot in the first half. Sachi Howson allowed a goal and made five saves in the second half.  Sashko had a busy day in net, stopping 11 of the 13 shots she faced for the Pilgrims.
