Men's Squash Grabs Third Place With Victory Over Williams

The Middlebury men's squash team, seeded fourth and ranked 21st, finished in third place overall with an 8-1 win over third-seeded and 19th-ranked Williams (9-15) in the 2018 NESCAC Tournament hosted by Hamilton. With the victory, the Panthers improve to 7-8 and return to action on Friday when they play at #13 Navy beginning at 5:00 p.m.

The Panthers tallied wins in the first seven matches to finish on Sunday. Henry Pearson started things off with a three-game victory over Patrick Smith at #4 (11-4, 11-7, 11-2), while Thomas Wolpow made the score 2-0 with an 11-0, 6-11, 11-2, 11-8 win against William Ruggiero in the eighth position.

John Epley kept things rolling with a four-game decision at #6 over Jamie Havran (11-3, 10-12, 11-7, 11-3), while Jacob Ellen edged Wyatt Khosrowshahi in three games at the second spot (11-5, 11-9, 12-10). Alex Merrill clinched the team's fifth point via an 11-8, 12-10, 9-11, 11-4 victory over Andrew Litvin at #7.

Wins number six and seven came from Jack Kagan over Andrew Butler at #3 (11-4, 11-6, 11-8), and Wiatt Hinton against Ben Eisenberg in the middle of the ladder (11-3, 12-10, 11-7).

Williams secured its lone point of the match with a five-game victory atop the lineup. William Kurth made the final score 8-1 in favor of the Panthers via a five-game decision at #9 (8-11, 14-12, 11-9, 4-11, 12-10).
