Panthers Outlast Williams at CSA Team Championships

The 21st-ranked Middlebury men's squash team outlasted #20 Williams for a 6-3 victory on Friday evening in the Summers Cup quarterfinal round at the CSA Team Championships. Five of the nine matches were decided in five games. The national event is being hosted by Trinity at the Kellner Squash Center. The Panthers return to action Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in a semifinal match against #17 Dickinson.

Middlebury (8-11) started things off in the closely-contested match with a pair of three-game victories. John Epley defeated Anand Butler at #6 (13-11, 11-9, 11-3), while Jack Kagan bested Will Means (11-9, 11-7, 11-8) in the third position.

The Ephs (9-17) rattled off three-consecutive wins at #9, #2 and #8 for a 3-2 lead. Following a four-game decision in the ninth spot and a sweep at #2, the match went five games at #8, including 24-22 in the decisive game.

Middlebury was victorious in the final four matches to finish, all of them in five games. Wiatt Hinton leveled the score at 3-3 with a 7-11, 11-9, 6-11, 12-10, 11-6 win over David Pincus at #5, while William Cembalest defeated Carl Shuck in the top spot by scores of 11-6, 6-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-9.

Alex Merrill clinched the match with a 6-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-4 win against Ben Eisenberg at #7, while Henry Pearson rounded out the scoring with an 11-5, 10-12, 11-4, 5-11, 11-5 triumph over Wyatt Khosrowshahi in the fourth slot.
