Women's Soccer Scores Four Straight in Win at Trinity

Box Score

Middlebury scored the game's final four goals on its way to a 4-1 win over Trinity (4-5-2, 2-4-1) in Connecticut. The fourth-ranked Panthers (11-0-1, 6-0-1) return to action on Sunday when they host Wesleyan at noon.

In a high-paced first half, the Bantams struck first in the 10th minute on a corner. Maeve Rabbitt served a kick that found Caroline Sullivan, who knocked it home for her first career goal.

The Panthers returned the favor nearly 10 minutes later when they evened the score on a corner kick of their own. Amanda Dafonte placed a beautiful pass into a scrum in front of Trinity goalie Taylor O'Connor. The pass found Eliza Van Voorhis, who rifled a header into the back of the net to tie things at 1-1.

Middlebury took a 2-1 lead just before the half when Clare Robinson and Olivia Miller connected on another corner. Miller served a ball into the box that Robinson headed past O'Connor for a 2-1 lead at the 39:27 mark. The goal was the first of the season by Robinson.

The Panthers wasted little time striking in the second half, jumping out to a 3-1 advantage when Eliza Robinson scored in the 50th minute. Dafonte took another corner, which was originally snuffed out by Trinity's defense. The ball rolled back to Dafonte near the original kick, where she sent the ball back towards the net. Robinson was there again to score on a header just inside the far post for the goal.

Van Voorhis tallied her second score of the day just over five minutes later with an assist from E. Robinson, giving the Panthers a commanding, 4-1 lead at 54:30.

Trinity nearly cut into the lead with eight minutes left to play when Duun O'Hara rifled a shot on net, but Middlebury goalie Ursula Alwang laid out and made the save.

Middlebury finished with a 15-7 shots advantage in the game as Alwang earned three saves. O'Connor finished with six stops for the Bantams.

The Panthers are unbeaten in their first 12 games to start the season, owning the longest unbeaten streak since 2004, when the team went 15-0-3.
