Panther Men Open Second Semester With Setback at Williams

The 19th-ranked Middlebury men's squash team opened the second semester on Saturday afternoon, falling at 21st-ranked Williams by a 6-3 score in the Simon Squash Center. The Panthers (1-2) return to the court on Wednesday when they host #24 Amherst beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Middlebury took the early lead with a three-game victory at #6 from John Epley over David Pincus (11-5, 11-4, 12-10). The Ephs (2-7) responded with four-consecutive wins at #9, #3, #2 and #8 respectively for a 4-1 advantage. Wiatt Hinton pulled the Panthers to within two via a five-game triumph in the fifth spot over Williams' A.J. Solecki by scores of 11-13, 11-8, 6-11, 13-11 and 11-5.

The visitors clinched the team victory with a three-game triumph at #7. Middlebury's William Cembalest earned the third point for the Panthers with an 11-7, 11-7, 11-7 victory over Will Means in the top spot of the ladder. The Ephs completed the scoring with a three-game win in the fourth slot.
