Men's Squash Earns Two Wins in Maine

The 15th-ranked Middlebury men's squash team earned road victories by identical 7-2 scores on Saturday in Maine. The Panthers opened action with a win at #23 Colby, followed by a triumph at Bowdoin. Winners of four-straight matches, the Panthers (5-2) return to the court on Wednesday when they travel to top-ranked Trinity at 3:00 p.m.

In the win over Colby (4-2), six of the seven points for the Panthers came via four-game victories. Middlebury jumped ahead by a 3-0 score with wins by Thomas Wolpow at #6 (11-6, 11-4, 6-11, 11-7), Henry Pearson in the third spot (11-9, 11-4, 7-11, 11-7) and William Kurth at #9 (14-16, 11-7, 11-9, 11-5).

After Colby cut the lead to 3-1 with a three-game victory at #5, the Panthers rattled off four-consecutive triumphs. Jack Kagan was victorious at #2 (11-5, 6-11, 11-6, 11-6), while Wiatt Hinton clinched the match via an 11-4, 6-11, 11-5, 15-13 win in the fourth slot. The sixth and seventh points came from Jacob Ellen in the top spot (8-11, 11-6, 11-2, 11-8) and Ryan Swope at #8 (7-11, 11-6, 11-3, 7-11, 11-8).

Against Bowdoin (1-6), Kurth got the Panthers on the scoreboard with a three-game win at #9 (11-6, 11-0, 11-4), while the Polar Bears tied the match via a three-game win at #3. Wolpow made it a 2-1 Middlebury advantage with a five-game triumph in the sixth slot (7-11, 11-13, 13-11, 11-7, 11-9).

The Panthers took control of the match with five-straight victories for a 7-1 lead. Ryan Swope posted a four-game win at #8 (9-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-9), Kagan breezed by his opponent in three games in the second spot (11-6, 11-5, 11-9), while John Epley tallied the fifth team point with a four-game decision at #5 (13-15, 11-6, 11-4, 11-7).

Ellen made it 6-1 with an 11-4, 11-2, 11-4 win atop the ladder, while Hinton also posted a three-game win at #4 (11-4, 11-8, 11-6). The Polar Bears rounded out the scoring with a four-game win in the seventh slot.
