The Middlebury women's soccer team earned a 1-0 NESCAC victory over visiting Colby Saturday on Dragone Field. The Panthers (5-2-1, 2-2-1) host Rensselaer Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. in a non-conference tilt, while the Mules (3-4-1, 0-4-1) play the University of New England Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

The teams battled through a scoreless opening half, with the hosts generating the best two chances off of corner kicks. The first of those came with just over six minutes expired when Alex Barber's corner attempt was bodied on goal by Eliza Van Voorhis, but was corralled by Colby keeper Dani Lonati. The second opportunity was in the closing minutes of the half, as Leah Salzman headed Olivia Miller's offering from the near corner over the net.

The Mules had a bid to open the scoring in the middle stages of the half, as Laura Arnold took a shot from the left side of the penalty area that Panther goalie Ursula Alwang collected.

Middlebury netted the game's lone goal 3:02 into the second half, after being awarded a free kick near midfield. Eliza Robinson served a long ball into the penalty area where Van Voorhis touched it past Lonati for her team-leading third goal of the season.

The Panthers had a flurry of chances with 15 minutes remaining. Emma Shumway's low shot from 18 yards out was stopped by Donati and the Mule keeper punched a shot by Miller over the cross bar. On the ensuing corner kick, Sabrina Glaser flicked a shot off the near post, but the ball stayed out of the net, making the final 1-0.

Alwang finished with a pair of saves for her second shutout of the season, while Lonati made seven stops. Middlebury held a 19-4 advantage in shots and took all seven corner kicks.
