Panthers Sweep Titles at Vermont State Meet

The Middlebury men's and women's cross country teams won the team titles during the Vermont State Meet on their home course Saturday. The 17th-ranked men topped the field of eight schools with 20 points, while the 11th-ranked women took top honors with 21. The Panthers have a week off before returning to action October 14 at the Connecticut College Invitational.

Jonathan Perlman covered the 8K course in 26:58.3 to place second, as the Panthers claimed spots two through six. Kevin Serrao was third in 27:11.4, while Benjamin Hill was one spot behind in fourth with a time of 27:19.0. In fifth place, Graham Rainsby boasted a time of 27:27.9 and Will Meyer was the final scorer for Middlebury in 27:34.0. Castleton's Grandon Smith won the race in 26:42.0.

In the women's 6K, Read Allen won the race for the Panthers, as she boasted a swift time of 19:08.6. Katherine Glew was second to cross the finish line with a runner-up time of 19:19.0. Middlebury claimed positions five through seven to secure the team victory. Brianna Bisson (19:51.4) was fifth, followed by Leah Metzger (20:17.6) and Olivia Mitchell (20:26.4).
