The Middlebury women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 NESCAC contest at Bowdoin, as the Polar Bears netted a pair of late goals in the first half to account for all of the scoring Saturday in Brunswick, Maine. The Panthers (3-2-1, 1-2-1) travel to Keene State on Wednesday for a non-conference match at 7:00 p.m.

In the opening stanza, the visitors made a push to score first with 15 minutes showing on the clock. Sara DiCenso directed a shot on goal that Polar Bear keeper Rachel Stout made a jumping save on, and seconds later Virginia Charman fired a shot high of the net. The Panthers had another chance on a corner kick by Emma Shumway, but Stout was able to smoother a loose ball after it hit the left post.

Bowdoin (2-2-1, 1-2-1) struck for a pair of goals 3:16 apart late in the half for a 2-0 advantage. Emma Beane opened the scoring with an unassisted goal into the far corner of the net with 5:08 on the clock. Brigit Bergin doubled the lead minutes later, taking advantage of a turnover inside the Middlebury penalty area.

The Panthers looked to get on the scoreboard early in the second half, taking three shots in the opening six-plus minutes. Stout registered saves on Charman and Amanda Dafonte, while Dafonte had another shot go over the net. Bowdoin's defense clamped down and allowed only two shots the remainder of the game, recording the shutout.

Middlebury goalie Ursula Alwang finished with four saves, while Stout posted nine. The Panthers outshot the Polar Bears 17-12 for the game, including a 12-6 margin in the opening 45 minutes.
