Box Score Middlebury saw its modest four-game winning streak come to an end, as Bowdoin scored the contest's final two goals for a 3-1 NESCAC triumph Saturday in Brunswick, Maine. The Panthers (5-2-0, 2-2-0) are back on the field Saturday at 11:00 a.m., hosting Colby.
The Polar Bears (5-2-0, 3-1-0) grabbed the early lead, scoring on a direct kick by Ethan Ellsworth 14:32 into the contest. Ellsworth took the kick from 25 yards out from the goal, hooking a shot around the wall and past a diving Middlebury keeper Jeremy Yeager. That goal ended Yeager's streak of not allowing a goal at 367:45.
Middlebury countered less than four minutes later, tying the score when Daniel O'Grady out jumped a defender to head in a pass from Drew Goulart for his second tally of the season. The Polar Bears claimed a 2-1 lead in the late stages of the half, as Moctar Niang headed in a feed from Matty McColl with 8:14 left before the break.
Niang increased Bowdoin's lead to 3-1 just 1:50 into the new half, heading in his second goal of the contest. The Panthers made a bid for a second score in the 68th minute, as Goulart used a quick restart on the left side to gain space and fired a shot on net that Polar Bear goalie Stevie Van Siclen caught.
Both Yeager and Van Siclen finished with four saves, as the hosts held a slight 10-9 edge in shots.
