O'Grady's Double OT Score Lifts Middlebury Past Colby-Sawyer

Box Score

Middlebury's Daniel O'Grady scored the game-winning goal with 1:47 left in the second overtime, lifting the Panthers (2-1-0) to a 2-1 victory over Colby-Sawyer on South Street Field. The Panthers return to action on Saturday when return to NESCAC play with a 12:00 p.m. match at Amherst, while the Chargers (0-4-0) host Clark on Wednesday.

Middlebury had a great chance to score in the game's 20th minute on a set piece, but Kyle Moffat's header sailed just wide to the left.

With exactly 20 minutes left in the opening half, Colby-Sawyer went up 1-0 when Denali Sexton raced ahead on a pass from the Charger backline. Sexton carried the ball forward and faded toward the left side, ripping a shot just past Middlebury goalie Jeremy Yeager and inside the far post for his first goal of the season.

The hosts nearly tied the score in the 32nd minute, but a blast from 19 yards out by O'Grady hit the crossbar and caromed away.

In the second half, Middlebury continued with the offensive pressure while looking for the equalizer. The Panthers broke through at 81:55 when Peter Davis headed in his first career goal following a scramble in the box on a corner kick. Middlebury nearly took the lead in the 87th minute, but O'Grady's header from six yards out was stopped by Colby-Sawyer goalie Sean Babinski.

Following a first overtime which had no scoring chances, Middlebury had a great opportunity when Ben Potter found himself alone with Babinski following a through ball, but the Charger keeper charged off his line and made the save.

The Panthers earned the win when O'Grady ran onto a pass from 70 yards away by Henry Wilhelm. After collecting the ball just outside the penalty box, O'Grady made one move to his left and ripped a left-footed shot just past the outstretched arms of Babinski for the decisive goal. The game-winning tally was O'Grady's fourth of his career.

Middlebury held a 38-4 advantage in shots for the match and 9-1 edge in corner kicks. Babinski made 11 stops to pick for the Chargers, while Yeager tallied a save for the Panthers.
