Panthers Victorious in NESCAC Third-Place Match Over Williams

The Middlebury men's squash team, seeded fourth and ranked 18th, finished in third place overall with a narrow 5-4 victory over third-seeded and 17th-ranked Williams in the 2017 NESCAC Tournament hosted by Amherst. With the win, the Panthers improve to 10-8 and return to action at the CSA Team Championships at Harvard from February 17-19.

Middlebury's five victories all came from the bottom of the ladder. Following a win at #4 for the Ephs, a three-game victory from William Kurth in the eighth spot (11-5, 11-6, 11-8) along with four-game triumphs by Nick Bermingham at #9 (11-9, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8) and Ben Krant in the sixth place of the lineup (11-6, 9-11, 11-5, 11-5) gave the Panthers a 3-1 lead.

The Ephs pulled to within one following a victory at #2. Middlebury responded with a three-game win from Robert Rohrbach at #7 (11-4, 11-6, 11-8) for a 4-2 advantage, while Jack Kagan clinched the team's fifth point via a three-game triumph in the fifth spot (11-6, 11-8, 12-10).

Williams completed the scoring with a five-game win in the #3 spot and a three-game victory at #1 for the final 5-4 score.
