Football Scores 41 First-Half Points in Win Over Hamilton

Middlebury scored the game's first 41 points, all in the first half, on its way to a 41-20 win over Hamilton (2-6) on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium. With the win, the Panthers (6-2) capture the "Rocking Chair Classic" for the 22nd-straight time. Middlebury wraps up its season next Saturday at Tufts, while Hamilton will host Bates.

Middlebury took a 7-0 play on its second play from scrimmage when Jack Meservy tossed a 65-yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Martinez.

Kevin Maxwell forced a Hamilton fumble on the visitor's first play, with John Jackson recovering the ball. One play later, Meservy hit Martinez again, this time from 22 yards out and a 14-0 lead just 1:28 into the game.

A four-yard touchdown reception by running back Peter Scibilia gave Middlebury a 20-0 lead after one quarter of play.

The Panthers took advantage of a pair of Continentals turnovers later in the quarter. Wesley Becton recovered a fumble and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown at the 6:16 mark, making it a 27-0 contest.

On Hamilton's next possession, Jackson registered a sack and caused a fumble that was recovered by Aaron Slodowitz. Two plays later, Meservy connected with Frank Cosolito from 36 yards, as the tight end made a great catch in the end zone for a touchdown and a 34-0 advantage with 4:09 on the clock.

After holding Hamilton on a fourth-down play, Middlebury added one more late score when quarterback Will Jernigan led the team 67 yards in 1:46, connecting with Conrado Banky on a five-yard touchdown pass.

Hamilton's Mitch Bierman scored on touchdown runs of eight and two yards in the fourth quarter, while Sam Foley found Joe Schmidt on a six-yard strike late for a 41-20 final.

Meservy went 11-16 in the game for 212 yards with four touchdowns, while Jernigan went 4-6 for 58 yards. Martinez caught three passes for 117 yards and a pair of scores, while Cosolito pulled down three passes for 55 yards and a touchdown. Jackson had a day on defense, finishing with nine tackles, a forced fumble, fumble recovery and a sack. Becton added seven tackles with an interception, while Maxwell forced two fumbles and registered six tackles.

Foley went 22-40 for the Continentals, throwing for 276 yards. Marcus Guitierrez led all rushers with 70 yards on 14 carries, while Joe Schmidt paced all receivers with 11 catches for 129 yards and a touchdown. Cole Burchill finished with a game-high 11 tackles.
