The Middlebury women's soccer team scored late in the second half for a 1-0 NESCAC road victory over Tufts (4-2-3, 3-1-2) on Saturday. The Panthers (7-2-1, 3-2-1) continue conference play at Wesleyan on Sunday with an 11:00 a.m. start.

In the opening half, Middlebury's best scoring chance came in the eighth minute after a foul on Tufts just outside of the 18. Eliza Van Voorhis took the kick for the Panthers, opting for a short pass to Alex Barber on the left side. Barber crossed the ball to the far post, where Emma Shumway's header attempt narrowly missed the goal. The Jumbos looked to get on the board at the 15:24 mark, but Elizabeth Reed's shot went just right of the net.

Out of the break with the match scoreless, the hosts looked to get on the board at the 61:11 mark when Sophie Lloyd found shooting space, and fired a hard shot that was corralled by Middlebury goalie Ursula Alwang. Just six minutes later, an attempt by Middlebury's Virginia Charman was denied by Tufts' goalkeeper Emily Bowers, keeping the game knotted at 0-0.

Middlebury scored the match's only goal with 12:40 left in regulation. Charman sent a cross to Van Voorhis, whose header hit the crossbar, before Eliza Robinson tapped the ball into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

The Panthers held a 14-7 shot advantage, and a 5-1 edge in corners. Alwang finished with three stops for her third shutout of the season, while Bowers had four stops for the Jumbos.
