Conrad's Goal Lifts #16 Middlebury to Win at Hamilton

Box Score

Behind a goal from Greg Conrad in the 20th minute, 16th-ranked Middlebury (5-0-1, 3-0-1) ran its winning streak to three with a 1-0 NESCAC road victory over Hamilton (4-3, 3-1) on Tuesday at Love Field. The Panthers remain on the road in conference play for a 1:30 p.m. match Saturday at Colby.

The lone score of the match came at 19:58 when Adam Glaser beat two defenders near the top of the penalty area and whipped a low pass toward the feet of Conrad, who was in the middle of the pitch eight yards away. Conrad spun and made a quick touch to his left, firing a high shot which he tucked inside the left post and past the hands of Hamilton goalkeeper Harris Pollack for the eventual game-winning score. The goal was the second of the season for Conrad and the 24th of his career.

Hamilton produced a few scoring chances in the second half. In the 62nd minute, a leaping Mike Lubelczyk headed from a free kick from one end of the goal line to the other, but the ball went just outside the left post.

Middlebury goalkeeper Greg Sydor made the biggest of his three saves in the 76th minute when Hamilton's Alec Talsania took a free kick from outside the penalty area, arching a high shot from right to left which Sydor slapped just over the cross bar.

Hamilton's final chance at the tying goal came with 88 seconds remaining in regulation. Aidan Wood sent a hard, low shot at the near post, but Sydor smothered the shot to seal the Panther win.

Hamilton outshot the Panthers by a 14-9 count for the match, while Middlebury earned five corner kicks to the Continentals' four. Sydor tallied the trio of second-half saves for his third shutout this fall and the 19th clean sheet of his career, while Pollack had four stops for the hosts.
