Glaser's Efforts Boost Men's Soccer Past Keene State

Box Score

Adam Glaser scored two first-half goals and assisted on a third, lifting Middlebury to a 3-0 non-conference win over Keene State (4-2). The Panthers improve to 3-0-1 on the season and return to action on Saturday when they host Bowdoin in a NESCAC contest at 11:00 a.m. The loss was the second-straight for the Owls, who opened their season 4-0.

Middlebury was knocking on the door early, breaking through at the 17:02 mark on Glaser's first of the match. Daniel O'Grady sent a crossing pass that was deflected by a defender, before Glaser put home the rebound.

The Panthers made it a 2-0 game at 25:27 when Glaser netted his team-leading third goal of the season. Jeremy Barovick sent in a cross from the right to Greg Conrad, who sent the ball toward the goal. Glaser was there to bury it into the back of the net for the 2-0 advantage.

Glaser had a good look for the hat trick minutes later, but his shot was denied by Keene State keeper Jason Smith.

Keene State's best opportunity of the match came in the 35th minute on a bid by Conor Leahy from 18 yards out, but Panther keeper Greg Sydor made a diving save to his left to keep the Owls off the board.

Middlebury scored its final goal of the match with 3:26 remaining in the first half. A great crossing pass from Glaser set up O'Grady, who tapped the ball into an open net for his second of the year.

The Panthers nearly added to their lead twice in the second half, but chances from O'Grady and Jed Sass both hit the crossbar.

Keene State could not muster a shot in the second half as Middlebury finished with a 20-3 shots advantage. Sydor made a pair of stops to earn his 18th career shutout. Smith made four saves in the first half for Keene, while Patrick Whelan made no saves and allowed no goals in the final 45 minutes.
