The second-seeded Panther men's squash team, ranked 14th nationally, ended the weekend in third place for the fourth time over the program's nine-year history during the 2016 NESCAC Tournament hosted by Trinity. Middlebury recorded a narrow 5-4 victory on Sunday over fourth-seeded and #18 Williams. The Panthers improve to 12-4 overall and return to action at the CSA Team Championships at Yale.
Middlebury dropped the game in the top spot of the ladder on Sunday in a five-game match, but David Cromwell posted a four-game victory at #2 over Williams' John Fitzgerald (11-8, 11-5, 6-11, 11-6). Wyatt French followed that with a three-game win against the Ephs' Galen Squiers by tallies of 11-5, 13-11, 11-5 in the third spot. Williams recorded wins at #4, #5 and #9, respectively.
Three-game triumphs for the Panthers came from Henry Pearson at #6 (11-6, 11-2, 11-7) over David Pincus, and William Kurth who defeated William Ruggiero in the eighth spot (11-4, 11-5, 11-7). Middlebury's fifth point was posted by Ben Krant at #7, who lost the first game to Williams' Jamie Havran 11-7, but rebounded for 11-5, 11-9 and 11-9 victories.
