Panther Men Fall to Navy During CSA Team Championships

Middlebury fell to #14 Navy by a 9-0 score on Saturday morning in the Hoehn Cup consolation semifinal at the CSA Men's Squash National Team Championship. The event is being hosted by Yale at the Brady Squash Center. The 15th-ranked Panthers (12-6) return to action Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. for the 15th/16th-place match against #16 Brown. Middlebury squared off with Brown earlier this season on January 16, earning a thrilling 5-4 victory in the Panthers' home finale.

The Midshipmen secured three-game victories in five of Saturday's nine matches. Middlebury's Wyatt French and Navy's Senen Ubina split the first four games at #2, but Ubina grabbed the point with an 11-8 victory in the fifth game (11-8, 6-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-8). At #7, William Kurth and the Naval Academy's Williams Walker also needed a deciding fifth game before Walker gave the Midshipmen a point (11-9, 6-11, 5-11, 11-9, 11-5).

The other two matches that went more than three games were at #5 and #6. Henry Pearson won the opening game for the Panthers in the fifth spot, but dropped the next tightly-contested three to Navy's Randy Beck (6-11, 11-8, 11-9, 12-10). Middlebury's Ben Krant and the Naval Academy's Dylan Sweeney were tied at 1-1 in the sixth spot before Sweeney earned wins in games three and four en route to the win (11-9, 11-13, 11-3, 11-6).
