The Middlebury men's soccer team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its schedule Tuesday with a 3-1 road victory at Colby-Sawyer. The win put the 15th-ranked Panthers at 9-1-3 on the season, while the Chargers fall to 8-5-1 and saw their modest five-match winning streak end. The Panthers return home Saturday to face NESCAC opponent Bates at 11:00 a.m.

Middlebury opened the scoring on its third shot of the match when Drew Goulart fired a shot from a tough angle along the end line at the Charger net. His shot hit off keeper Jake Towle and crossed the goal line just 5:13 into the half after taking a pass from Daniel O'Grady.

The Panthers nearly doubled the lead in the 16th minute when James Scott directed a shot off the cross bar.

Colby-Sawyer tied the match in the 31st minute when Andrew Clothier hit the post with a shot and Jake Sykes buried the rebound, knotting the score at a goal apiece.

Middlebury regained its one-goal advantage with 5:20 left before halftime when O'Grady one-timed a centering pass from Shams Mohajerani into the back of the Charger net. The goal was O'Grady's fifth of the fall and the assist was Mohajerani's first collegiate point.

The Panthers accounted for the only goal in the second stanza when Goulart netted his second of the match. He knocked in a rebound on a shot by Jed Sass that was originally stopped by Towle in the 67th minute. Goulart has four goals on the season, three of them coming in the last two matches.

Middlebury's Greg Sydor made one save for his 30th career victory, while Towle recorded 10 stops for the Chargers. Middlebury held a 23-10 edge in shots and took four of the match's six corner kicks.
