#19 Panther Men's Soccer Battles Trinity to Scoreless Draw

Box Score

The Middlebury men's soccer team stayed unbeaten on the road this season (4-0-2) as the Panthers and Trinity finished in a scoreless draw Saturday on Campus Field. The 19th-ranked Panthers (7-1-3, 3-1-3) return to the pitch tomorrow when they host Wesleyan at 2:00 p.m.

The Bantams had a great scoring chance in the second when a shot by Alex Steel hit the post and deflected away to keep things scoreless. Middlebury's Daniel O'Grady also planted a ball off the post during the 72nd minute on a good scoring opportunity, before a big save by Domenic Quade on a shot from Drew Goulart ended a Panther offensive threat.

The overtime periods were physical for both teams but without incident as Middlebury took four shots in the two extra sessions, but none of them were on goal. Trinity fired just one shot on goal in the second overtime that was handled by Greg Sydor to preserve the draw.

Sydor tallied five stops in the draw for the Panthers, good for his sixth shutout of the season and the 22nd of his career. The latter total ties him with Bart Lombardi '84 for third in the program's record books. Quade recorded six saves on the day for the Bantams.
