Box Score Middlebury's Adam Glaser scored twice to become the program's all-time leading scorer as the Panthers posted a 4-1 road win Wednesday at Castleton. Glaser's two tallies give him 93 career points moving past Kyle Dezotell's '03 total of 90. The win moves the 19th-ranked Panthers at 7-1-3 on the season, while the Spartans fall to 4-7-2. Middlebury returns to NESCAC play Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. road contest at Trinity.
The Panthers opened the scoring with 19:14 left in the initial half on Drew Goulart's first career goal. Goulart settled the ball on the left side of the Castleton penalty area and beat a defender before firing a low shot into the near corner for a 1-0 lead.
Glaser doubled the lead in the final minute of the half as he became Middlebury's all-time leading scorer on the play. After eluding a pair of Spartan defenders, he ripped a shot from the top of the penalty area in the bottom left of the goal 49 seconds before the frame ended.
Starting the second stanza with a two-goal lead, the Panthers added a tally in the first 10 minutes, making it a 3-0 contest. Goulart pushed a nice ball through the Castleton defense that Glaser ran onto. The senior one-touched it past a charging keeper and deposited the ball in the empty net for his team-leading sixth of the season.
The hosts answered in the 68th minute when Dallas Desroches tucked home a cross by Jack Kingdon at the far post, making the score 3-1.
The Panthers closed out the scoring with 4:12 remaining when Tom Bean headed in his first goal of the fall on a free kick by Jed Sass.
With his two goals, Glaser now owns two of the three prominent career scoring records. In addition to being the points leader, he is the leader in assists with 29 and currently sits tied for second in goals at 32 with Tor Hultgren '61. Dezotell holds the record for career goals with 34.
Middlebury keeper Greg Sydor recorded three saves for the victory, while Castleton's Aaron Parker collected nine. The Panthers held a dominant 42-9 advantage in shots and took all six corner kicks.
