Lebowitz Throws for Five Touchdowns Again as Panthers Topple Colby

Jared Lebowitz threw five touchdown passes for the second-consecutive week, leading Middlebury to its third 2-0 start in the past four years with a 35-14 road win at Colby (1-1). The Panthers return to action next Saturday when they host Amherst at 1:30.

After the teams exchanged five punts to open the game, Middlebury got on the board when Ryan Rizzo caught an eight-yard touchdown pass from Lebowitz early in the second quarter.

On their next possession, the Panthers needed just three plays, as Lebowitz hit Conrado Banky for a 64-yard scoring strike and a 14-0 lead with 10:21 remaining in the second quarter.

Middlebury scored on its third-straight possession when Lebowitz found James Burke for a lengthy scoring strike, this one from 47 yards.

Middlebury's Clay Hunt intercepted the Mules on their next possession, but the Panthers returned the favor on an Ian Dickey pick.

Middlebury opened the second half with another scoring drive, moving 77 yards on 11 plays, while taking 4:14 off the clock. Diego Meritus gained 36 yards on the ground, while tight end Frank Cosolito's first career catch resulted in a 20-yard touchdown reception. The score gave the Panthers a 28-0 lead with 10:38 left in the third quarter.

One possession later, Middlebury scored on another lengthy drive, going 80 yards on nine plays. Lebowitz completed his fifth touchdown pass of the afternoon and second to Banky, this one coming from 36 yards out.

Colby got on the board on its ensuing possession when quarterback Christian Sparacio scored on a two-yard rush. He completed three passes for 44 yards on the drive.

Kevin Hopsicker later ended a Colby drive with an interception, before the Mules scored again late in the fourth quarter. The drive featured two fourth-down conversions and ended with a 29-yard touchdown pass from Sparacio to Sebastian Ferrell with 2:28 remaining, making it a 35-14 final.

Middlebury outgained Colby 429-245 in total offense, despite the Mules owning a 35:41-24:19 edge in time of possession.

Lebowitz went 17-25 for 320 yards with five scoring strikes and just one interception in three quarters of action. Jack Meservy was 4-6 for 16 yards.

Meritus finished with 62 yards on 11 carries, while Banky had a huge game, catching seven passes for 198 yards with a pair of touchdowns. Burke pulled down three catches for 66 yards and a score, while Rizzo caught five passes for 40 yards with a touchdown.

Wesley Becton and Justin Fahey paced the Panther defense with eight tackles apiece, with Fahey earned a pair for last yardage. Addison Pierce earned seven stops with a sack, while Hunt made seven tackles with an interception. The Panther defense finished with 11 tackles for lost yardage.

Sparacio went 10-23 for Colby, throwing for 109 yards and a touchdown. Jack O'Brien was 4-8 with 21 yards passing. Jabari Hurdle-Price led the Mule ground game with 43 yards on 15 carries, while Sparacio gained 30 yards on 10 attempts with a touchdown.

Ferrell led the Colby receivers with three receptions for 65 yards. Same Friedman paced the Mule defense with nine stops and a sack, while Don Vivian finished with eight tackles.
