The 16th-ranked Middlebury men's squash team earned a hard-fought 5-4 home victory Saturday over #15 Brown in the Panthers' final home match of the season. Middlebury (8-2) returns to the court on Sunday when it takes on 10th-ranked Franklin & Marshall in a match to be contested at Williams.
In the narrow win, the Panthers and Bears split the first four matches. Middlebury had four-game victories from Robert Rohrbach at #9 (11-6, 5-11, 11-4, 11-5) and Wyatt French at #3 (11-4, 8-11, 13-11, 11-8), as the visitors notched their first two points in the sixth and fifth spots, respectively.
With the match tied at 2-2, Middlebury won the next three matches. William Kurth was the first to finish, recording a tough four-game win having to go into extra points in the third and fourth games (11-5, 8-11, 12-10, 12-10) at #8, while David Cromwell made it a 4-2 advantage for the Panthers with a four-game victory in the second slot of the ladder (11-8, 3-11, 13-11, 11-8).
Hanging on to a two-point lead, Ben Krant secured the Panthers' fifth point with a four-game win at #7 (11-4, 11-8, 9-11, 11-3) before Brown tallied their third and four points at #4 and #1.
