The 18th-ranked Middlebury men's squash team eased past #22 Amherst in the squad's home-opening match Tuesday evening by an 8-1 score. The win is the seventh-straight for Middlebury, tying a record for the longest winning streak in the program's history. The Panthers return to the court Wednesday when they host third-ranked St. Lawrence at 4:30 p.m.
In the win over the Purple & White, three-game victories came from David Cromwell at #2, Wyatt French at #3, Andrew Cadienhead at #4, Henry Pearson in the sixth spot and Ben Krant at #7. In the fifth slot, Middlebury's Harrison Croll won the first two games before Darian Ehsani earned the win in the third game. Croll posted a narrow 11-8 game win en route to the four-game triumph.
William Kurth and Amherst's Jeremy Van split the first two games at #8, but Kurth posted 11-7 and 11-8 wins in games three and four in the 3-1 victory. The most exciting back-and-forth match of the evening came at the bottom of the ladder, as Cameron Dewey won the opening two games against Amherst's Thornton Ellis by scores of 11-7 and 11-3. Ellis responded with wins in games three and four by scores of 11-6 and 11-9, but Dewey earned the team point with a convincing 11-3 win in the fifth game.
