The 17th-ranked Middlebury men's squash team recorded a pair of impressive victories against top-25 opponents. At home on Friday evening, the Panthers edged by #12 Drexel by a 5-4 tally in a thrilling match. Taking to the road, Middlebury cruised to a 7-2 victory against 22nd-ranked Amherst on Saturday in Massachusetts.
Against the Dragons on Friday, the Panthers raced out to a 4-1 lead. Wins came from Wyatt French at #3 in straight sets, David Cromwell and Robert Galluccio in a pair of marathon matches at #6 and #8, respectively, as well as Cameron Dewey at #9 in four sets. Drexel pulled to within one at 4-3 via wins from the top and fifth slots. Middlebury responded as the decisive point came from the #7 match as Will Hanley was victorious in straight sets.
Middlebury cruised to the victory against the Jeffs on Saturday. French, Croll and Dewey cruised in straight sets at #3, #4 and #9, while Andrew Cadienhead, Cromwell and Hanley posted four-set wins in the second, sixth and seventh spots, respectively. The Panthers other win was a five-set victory by William Kurth at #5 despite trailing two sets to one.
The Panthers return to the court Friday through Sunday when they take part in the NESCAC Championship hosted by Williams.
