Playing host to the Middlebury Round Robin, the men's squash team fared well in matches contested Friday through Sunday against four teams ranked in the top 30. The 19th-ranked Panthers started things off with a 9-0 win Friday against #26 Connecticut College. A day later, Middlebury upset #16 Bates by a 6-3 count in a tightly-contested match. On Sunday, the Panthers were defeated 8-1 by #9 Franklin & Marshall, but rebounded for a convincing 9-0 victory over 25th-ranked Hamilton.
Against the Camels, eight Panthers pulled out straight-set wins, while the ninth player needed just four sets.
After dropping the top-two spots against Bates on Saturday, the bottom half of the lineup responded for Middlebury. At the #7 position, David Cromwell started things off with a win in four sets. Wyatt French followed that up with a tough win in five sets at #3, and Cameron Dewey fought back from a 2-1 deficit in the #9 slot for a win in five. Picking up a win at #5, William Kurth gave the Panthers a 4-3 lead, just one point away from a team win. Tied at 2-2, Robert Galluccio secured the team victory with a 3-2 victory in the #8 slot. Ben Krant gave Middlebury its sixth point with a 3-0 win at #7.
Krant notched the Panthers' lone point against Franklin & Marshall with a five-set victory at #8, while Middlebury had little trouble in its win over Hamilton.
The Panthers return to the court Wednesday when they host 15th-ranked Williams at 5:00 p.m.
