Bowdoin Slips Past Women's Soccer

Box Score

Bowdoin remained undefeated on the season as the 19th-ranked Polar Bears (4-0, 4-0) picked up a 2-1 road win at Middlebury (3-3, 0-3) on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers return to action next Saturday at Colby, while the Polar Bears host UMaine-Farmington on Sunday.

Bowdoin had a great chance in the 16th minute of play, but Jamie Hofstetter's shot from the left side 25 yards out hit the right post. Middlebury had a chance of its own in the 25th minute, but Jamie Soroka's shot went just wide left as she was streaking to the goal after a feed from Hannah Robinson.

Just three minutes later, Robinson found Krystina Reynolds, who was not able to get a good foot on the ball in the middle. The ball came loose as Claire Nishioka nearly scored during a scramble.

The game remained scoreless into the second half when Bowdoin took a 1-0 lead at the 58:31 mark. Kiersten Turner sent a booming shot from 30 yards out into the deep left corner. Middlebury keeper Kate Reinmuth (5 saves) made a play on the ball, as Amanda Kinneston was there to find the back of the net.

The Polar Bears nearly doubled their lead eight minutes later, but Kinneston was unable to score on what appeared to be an open net before Reinmuth made a diving save.

Middlebury knotted the game at 1-1 at the 69:13 mark with a tally from Reynolds. Carter Talgo crossed a ball from the left side that Reynolds was able to battle for and win against a defender. She quickly got a foot on it and found the back of the net to even the contest.

Bowdoin scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 74:13 mark, as Turner put her team up 2-1. After taking a throw in, Turner launched the ball from 20 yards out on the right side that found the top right corner over the outstretched arm of Reinmuth.

Middlebury held a slim 15-13 shots advantage in the game, as Bridget McCarthy made four saves in goal to earn the win for Bowdoin.
