Late Goal Lifts Trinity Past Middlebury

Alexa Menard tallied the game-winning goal from in the 84th minute to lead Trinity to a 2-1 win Saturday over visiting Middlebury in NESCAC action. Middlebury (6-5, 2-4) returns to the field Sunday with a conference road match at Hamilton at 11:00 a.m., while Trinity (5-4-1, 1-4-1) hosts Tufts on the same day.

Trinity got on the board first in the 25th minute. Elisa Dolan fed Karyn Barrett for her fifth goal of the season. 

The score remained a 1-0 Bantams' lead headed into the halftime intermission. Out of the break, Middlebury tied it just 1:38 into the second stanza when Hannah Robinson found Claire Nishioka. The goal was Nishioka's second in the last three matches.

Trinity goalie Monica DiFiori made three of her five saves over a six-minute span early in the second half to keep the game knotted at 1-1, before Menard scored the decided goal in the waning minutes.

Middlebury outshot Trinity by a 20-7 count, including a 13-3 margin in the second half. The Panthers held a slight 4-3 edge in corner kicks, while Panther goalie Emily Eslinger was credited with one save.
