Men's Soccer Earns Road Tie At Bowdoin

Box Score

Middlebury earned a 1-1 tie at Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers (1-1-1, 1-1-1) held a 25-17 shots advantage in the game, with the Polar Bears (1-2-1, 0-2-1) scoring a second half goal to earn the tie. Middlebury returns to action on Wednesday when they host Colby-Sawyer.

Middlebury was first to get on the board this afternoon, following a miscommunication by the Bowdoin defense resulted in Ben Brewster heading the ball over netminder Will Wise for an own-goal at 24:00. Neither offense was able to find the net through the remainder of the opening half.

Bowdoin rebounded from their opening half error with the tying goal 12 minutes into the second half. Matt Dias Costa passed the ball to the middle where Zach Danssaert made a quick touch to Andrew Jones. Jones placed a perfect shot to the bottom right corner beyond the reach of Middlebury's Ethan Collins.

The two teams battled through 20 minutes of overtime play, with neither able to net the game-winner. Bowdoin looked to put the game away in the second overtime period, as Jones had a breakaway down the left. Adam Batista came in with a side tackle on Jones' right just as he was about to release a shot.

Both goalies played all 110 minutes with Wise recording nine saves for the Polar Bears, while Collins had seven for Middlebury.
