Men's Soccer Dominates In Win Over Castleton

Middlebury extended its winning streak to four games with a 9-1 win over Castleton (10-3-2) on Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 7-3-1 on the year and will host Southern Vermont on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. Castleton sees its eight-game unbeaten streak come to an end and will return to action on Saturday at Thomas.

Middlebury scored three goals in a 3:36 span in the first half to take a 3-0 advantage. Greg Conrad opened the scoring at 18:20, converting a Dan Skayne cross from inside the box. Skayne scored one of his own at 20:32, finding the back of the net from inside the box after a pass from Adam Glaser. Glaser netted his team-leading seventh of the year at 21:56, scoring with a shot to the left side after a pass from Skayne, who figured in the first three tallies of the game.

Leading 3-0, the Panthers netted two goals in seven seconds to make it a 5-0 game. Deklan Robinson scored on a header on a cross from Harper Williams, while Alex Davidson netted the first of his career after a pass from Glaser.   Brandon Robinson scored his first career goal with 1:04 left in the half on a penalty kick.

Castleton broke up the shutout early in the second half, with the fourth of the year from Jake Tietgens after some quick passing in the box. Conrad scored his second of the game at 71:03, while Tim Ogle and Tyler Bonini found the back of the net for the first time in their careers as the Panthers cruised to the 9-1 win.

Middlebury held a 24-5 shots advantage in the game, with a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. Ethan Collins made one save in the first half before giving way to Duncan Piper, who made a pair of second half stops in his collegiate debut. Nate Koenemann earned seven saves over 84:30, while Dan Palker played the final 5:30 between the posts for the Spartans.

Eight different players scored in the game for Middlebury, with Skayne and Glaser each earning a goal and two assists. Ogle, Davidson and B. Robinson each had a goal and a helper.
