Women's Soccer Moves To 2-0

The10th-ranked Middlebury women's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 3-0 victory over Keene State (1-4) on Dragone Field. The Panthers held a 25-11 shots advantage in the game, scoring three second half goals en route to the victory. Middlebury returns to action at Colby on Saturday, while Keene visits UMass.-Boston.

Keene's Hayley Kenyon and Kara Pavlidis had chances in the first half, but both of their shots hit the crossbar. Middlebury came on strong later in the half when Hannah Robinson's shot was stopped by a diving save from Victoria Crenson (9 saves), while Scarlett Kirk's rebound attempt was denied as well. Kirk later saw a shot saved in the 33rd minute, while Rachel Madding's follow-up hit the post. The Panther's best chance to score came with less than two minutes remaining in the half, when Hannah Newman's blast was deflected  off the crossbar by a diving Crenson.

Middlebury took a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the second half when Kirk quickly turned and shot from 15 yards out with some open space. The Panthers kept up the pressure, doubling their lead at the 63:05 mark on a penalty kick. Kirk was fouled in the area, setting up a blast to the bottom right corner by Amy Schlueter on the free kick for the 2-0 advantage.

Keene came back with pressure in the 67th minute when a shot from Jessica Berthiaume hit the post. The Owls best chance to score was in the 69th minute, when Panther keeper Elizabeth Foody (4 saves) made a leaping one-handed deflection on a shot earmarked for the top right corner from Shannon Summers.

Middlebury sealed the game at the 73:20 mark when Carter Talgo fed a pass up to Hannah Robinson, who chipped the ball over Crenson from the left side.
