Middlebury scored two power play goals and added an empty-netter on its way to a 5-2 road win at Colby. The game was the season-opener for both teams Friday night at Alfond Rink. Middlebury will play at Bowdoin on Saturday at 4 p.m., while Colby will entertains Williams College at 3 p.m.
Riley Dickie scored the game-winning goal just 1:16 into the third period from George Ordway. The Panthers added an insurance goal at 9:19 when Mike Longo had his shot go off a Colby skate for a 4-2 lead. John Barr and Ben Wiggins had assists on the play.
The Panthers closed out the scoring on a goal from Terrance Goguen on a shot from behind center ice into an empty net.
The Mules had two leads in the opening two periods, including a 1-0 lead when Nick Lanza pounded home a shot off an assist from Ray Zeek at 9:49 of the first period.
After Colby took a goalie interference penalty, Middlebury scored its first power play goal at 17:58 of the opening period when Matt Silcoff scored with just 14 seconds left on the man advantage with a pass from Dickie.
The Panthers took a tripping penalty just 51 seconds in the second period and the Mules went up 2-1 at 1:44. Lanza scored again with assists going to Tommy Kader and Zeek.
Less than three minutes later at 4:37, Middlebury tied the game at 2-2 when Louis Belisle tallied from Connor Frick and Silcoff.
Middlebury goaltender Nick BonDurant stopped 23 shots, while Colby's Matt Delaney made 29 saves.
