Middlebury improved to 46-3-4 all-time vs. Norwich, handing the Cadets a 7-0 loss en route to its third straight win at home. The win improves the Panthers to 4-0 on the season with 15 goals for and none against. Norwich falls to 3-4-1 on the year.
Jake Edwards tied the school record (held by five others) with three assists in the game, setting up the first three Panther goals. Tyler Smith scored the first of his career to get things going, heading in a free kick by Edwards from the corner kick area at 30:06.
Harrison Watkins scored on a similar play 3:34 later, scoring with a low hard shot on an Edwards corner kick. Watkins struck again for his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the second half at 59:03, heading in a corner from Edwards.
Sam Peisch and Martin Drolet came off the bench in the 62nd minute, connecting at 62:56 as Peisch netted the first of his career on a breakaway, with a great feed from Drolet. The lead increased to 5-0 just 1:21 later, when Smith tallied his second of the game, redirecting a ball headed into the box by Otis Pitney.
Brett Brazier sent a long cross ahead to Drolet in the 75th minute, as the two-time All-NESCAC hockey selection scored the first of his career on the soccer field, with a quick redirect. Ethan Galiette ended the scoring at 78:06, heading in a crossing pass from William Gevertz.
Tim Cahill made two saves in goal to earn the shutout, while Sam Armus (eight saves) and Zach McMillan (2 saves) both saw time for Norwich.
