Men's Soccer Blanks Trinity

Middlebury (2-0) remained unbeaten against Trinity (1-2) in its last 13 games, defeating the Bantams 1-0 in the team's home-opener. The Panthers return to action on Sunday when they host Southern Vermont with a 2:00 p.m. kick-off.

Middlebury had some golden opportunities in the first half, including a shot just wide by Tyler Macnee in the eighth minute after taking a feed from Carson Cornbrooks. Six minutes later, Trinity keeper Grant Schonberg (2 saves) made a nice save on a corner kick, stopping an attempt by Macnee after service from Robbie Redmond. Taylor Wilkins went hard to the goal in the 20th minute, with his shot just missing the crossbar.

The Panthers broke onto the scoreboard at the 51:31 mark of the second half, when Jake Edwards scored his first of the year. Cornbrooks fed Edwards, whose shot hit Schonberg and then crossed the goal line.

Middlebury kept up the pressure in the second half with more scoring chances, but could not increase their lead. Trinity's best opportunity came in the 75th minute, but Zachary Packer's shot was denied by a diving save from Tim Cahill (3 saves). The Panthers ended the game with an 11-5 shots advantage.
