Women's Soccer With Comeback Victory Over Amherst

Middlebury scored three goals in the game's final 9:08 to tie the game and then tallied the game-winner just 5:13 into overtime to earn a key NESCAC victory over Amherst (4-3-2, 3-1-2). First-year player Scarlett Kirk couldn't have picked a better time to score the first three markers of her career, earning a hat-trick in the game. The Panthers win their fourth straight to move to 5-2-1 overall and 3-2 in NESCAC play.

The match was evenly played with Middlebury holding a slim 19-18 shots advantage in the game. Amherst scored the only goal of the first half, as Jackie Hirsch beat a diving Lauryn Torch to her left with a shot from 12 yards out.

Emily Little finished off a scramble just 2:18 into the second half to give the Jeffs a 2-0 advantage. Hirsch scored her second of the game at the 59:23 mark to give Amherst a commanding 3-0 lead. Kyla Woodhouse sent in a crossing pass that Hirsch put home from the far post.

Kirk scored her first of the game at the 80:52 mark, finishing off a flurry after a cross from Julia Favorito. Middlebury made it a one-goal game at 84:09, when Kirk scored with a header on a corner kick from Kirsten Lundquist.

The Panthers came all the way back with 2:57 remaining, when Rachel Madding scored her first of the year. Nora Tomlinson-Weintraub crossed a ball which Madding trapped with her chest, before scoring with a shot to the top right corner to tie the game at 3-3.

Middlebury was peppering the Amherst net five minutes into the overtime, with Madding earning a pair of shots that were denied as well as Kirk. The rookie was able to finish the scramble 5:13 into overtime to give the Panthers the 4-3 win.

Torch ended the game with 10 saves for the Panthers, while Allie Horiwtz (86:01 MP, 2 GA, 5 saves) and Claire Bennett (9:12 MP, 2 GA, 0 saves) both saw time for Amherst.
