XCountry Teams Win State Meet

The Middlebury cross country teams both convincingly captured the State Championship, with the events taking place on campus. The meet was also the final home meet for 36-year head coach Terry Aldrich, who will be retiring this December. A legends race was held following the varsity races, with a ceremony to honor Aldrich following.

The Middlebury men won the race by placing runners in the top six spots, as well as 13 of the top 14 competitors. Junior Michael Schmidt captured the race with a time of 27:04, just four seconds ahead of rookie teammate Greg Krathwohl (27:08), who edged senior Jack Terrett by just .2 seconds. Placing fourth overall in the race was sophomore John Davies (27:16), followed by first-year racer Nate Sans (27:29) in fifth and junior Sam Miller in sixth (27:35).

The Middlebury women placed runners in the top eight slots, as well of 13 of the top 15 finishers. Just 25 seconds separated Panthers placing 1-8 in the race. First-year racer Colette Whitney picked up another win, finishing the race with a time of 19:24. Just three seconds behind was classmate Katie Rominger (19:27), while sophomore Addie Tousley finished in third place with a time of 19:33. Earning the fourth place finish was first-year racer Madie Hubbell (19:33), followed by senior Hannah Meier in fifth (19:36) and junior Chelsea Ward-Waller in sixth (19:42).
