The Panther cross country teams returned to action on Saturday when they raced in the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College. The Panther women finished the 12-team race third overall, behind Johns Hopkins and Williams. The men's team finished the race in fourth place, trailing UMass.-Lowell, Williams and N.Y.U.
Junior Sophia Spring (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) led the women's squad, finishing the race with a time of 22:47, good for fourth place overall in the 144-person race. First-year racer Stephanie Moroney (Manchester, Mass.) was next for Middlebury in 13th place (23:09), followed closely by sophomore Margo Cramer (Seattle, Wash.) in 15th place (23:11). Just behind her in the 17th slot was first-year racer Addie Tousley (Kensington, Md.) in 23:15, while senior Amanda Quinlan (Antrim, N.H.) rounded out Middlebury's scorers with a 20th place finish (23:20).
Sophomore Michael Schmidt (Wilmette, Ill.) continued to pace the men, finishing the 152-man race fourth overall with a time of 25:53. Junior Jack Terrett (Sherborn, Mass.) finished the event in 16th place (26:24), followed by senior Michael Waters (Bedford, Mass.), who came in 18th overall with a time of 26:32. Placing 22nd in the event was senior Vic Guevara (Short Hills, N.J.) in 26:41, while rookie Jack Davies (Grosse Point, Mich.) placed 28th with a time of 26:52.
