Cross Country Teams Race At ECAC's - Women Win Title

The Middlebury cross country teams took part in the ECAC Championships hosted by Williams on Saturdays. The women won the event for the first time in years, defeating second place Williams and third place UMass.-Amherst. The Panther men finished 13th overall. The races took place at Mount Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, Mass.

The Panther women, who rested several of their top runners, were led by rookie Sarah Lange (Brattleboro, Vt.), who finished in second place with a time of 22:55. Classmate Steph Moroney (Manchester, Mass.) was next in third place finishing in 23:11, followed by sophomore Cate Brown (Hanover, N.H.) in sixth place (23:41). Junior Amanda Lee (Lincoln, Neb.) came in 10th place (23:55) overall, while sophomore Chelsea Ward-Waller (Washington, D.C.) rounded out the scorers with a 16th place finish (24:15).

The men's team, also resting several of its top runners, was led by rookie Will Gibbons (Lexington, Mass.), who placed 42nd overall with a time of 28:06. Placing 63rd for the Panthers was rookie Ben Kingstone (Shawnigan Lake, B.C.) in 28:29, followed by classmate Mac Stormont (Atlanta, Ga.), who came in 82nd in 28:44. Sophomore Bryan Dooley (Pittsford, N.Y.) finished 92nd (29:07), while first-year racer Martin Sweeney (Scotch Plains, N.Y.) was 94th (29:08) to round out the Panther scorers.
